Warnings: Causes substantial but temporary eye injury. Do not get in eyes. Harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through skin. Avoid contact with skin or clothing. Avoid breathing vapor or spray mist. Wear safety glasses. Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Do not use on slopes or in areas where runoff is likely to occur (apply only to level surfaces). Do not contaminate water used for irrigation or domestic purposes. Do not contaminate water by cleaning of equipment or disposal of wastes. Do not contaminate water when disposing of equipment waste water. Do not apply directly to water. Do not use, pour, spill, or store near heat or open flame. Keep out of reach of children.
Acute Health Effects: From MSDSPRIMARY ROUTES OF ENTRY: Skin, Eye, Inhalation, IngestionSIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF EXPOSURE: Exposure to vapors can irritate respiratory tract and may cause headache, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and loss of coordination. Inhalation of high concentrations may cause convulsions, unconsciousness and coma. Inhalation of large concentrations or aspiration following ingestion can result in pulmonary edema (buildup of fluid in the lungs), hemorrhage and chemical pneumonitis (which could be fatal). Exposure may cause irreversible eye damage and severe skin irritation. Exposure to high levels of xylene may cause kidney and/or liver damage. Because of the butanol content, long-term exposure may cause some loss of hearing.MEDICAL CONDITIONS AGGRAVATED BY EXPOSURE: Persons with chronic respiratory disorders or pre-existing dermatitis should use extra care in handling this product.
Chronic Health Effects: From MSDS Repeated and prolonged exposure to high concentrations of vapors containing benzene, which is present in low concentrations in the solvent, can cause reversible and irreversible anemia, other blood disorders and leukemia. Repeated, prolonged exposure to phenyl glycol ether may cause kidney injury and red blood cell damage.
Carcinogenicity: In laboratory tests the active ingredient, prometon was: slightly toxic by ingestion (rats), slightly toxic by dermal absorption (rabbit), slightly toxic by inhalation (rat), corrosive to eye (rabbit) and severely irritating to skin (rabbit). Positive Teratogen/Mutagen/Carcinogen (NTP): Benzene may be present in the solvent at low concentrations. Benzene is listed as an NTP carcinogen. Potential Carcinogen OSHA: NO; IARC: Benzene may be present in the solvent at low concentrations. Benzene is listed as an IARC carcinogen.
First Aid: EYES: Immediately rinse eyes with large amounts of running water for at least 15 minutes. Hold eyelids apart to rinse the entire surface of eye and lid. Get immediate medical attention. Do not apply any medicating agents except on the advice of a physician. SKIN: Remove any contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Wash affected area with soap and water. Get medical attention if irritation develops. INHALATION: Remove victim to fresh air. If breathing ha stopped, give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen, if available. If unconscious, seek immediate medical assistance. INGESTION: DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. Immediately seek medical attention. NOTES TO PHYSICIAN: There is no specific antidote for the active ingredient, prometon. Induction of emesis is NOT recommended due to the large amount of petroleum solvents, which could cause chemical pneumonitis if aspirated. Check for possible mucosal damage before beginning gastric lavage. If inhaled, observe for delayed onset of pulmonary edema. Treat central nervous system effects symptomatically. After lavage, 5 mg/kg activated charcoal suspension (50g/400 ml water) can be left in the stomach to absorb the remaining toxicant. Contamination of eyes may require specialized ophthalmologic attention.

Handling/Disposal
Handling: Avoid contact with skin, eyes & clothing. Wash after handling. Do not contaminate water by disposal of equipment washwaters. Store in a cool, dry area out of reach of children and animals. Keep away from open flames.
Disposal: Dispose according to EPA guidelines as outlined in RCRA. Follow local and state regulations.
