Warnings: Eye irritant. If contact with eyes occurs, flush thoroughly with water. If irritation persists, call a physician.
Acute Health Effects: From MSDS:Inhalation: Exposure to high dust concentrations may cause physical discomfort and irritation of the upper respiratory tract. Symptoms include coughing, difficulty breathing, dryness and sore throat. Eye Contact: Substances with a pH of less than 2.0 are considered corrosive to the eyes. Skin Contact: Repeated or prolonged contact may produce irritation. Ingestion: May cause burning pain in the mouth, pharynx, and abdomen, followed by abdominal pain, intestinal distention, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure: Persons with decreased respiratory function or other pre-existing respiratory conditions or pre-existing skin conditions.
Chronic Health Effects: From MSDS:Due to the nature and composition of this product no chronic health effects are anticipated. Nonetheless, the following effects have been reported two of the products components. Quartz (Crystalline Silica): Acute inhalation of extremely high concentrations or chronic inhalation of finely divided silica dust above occupational standards may cause silicosis. A number of studies have shown that persons diagnosed as having silicosis have an increased risk of dying from lung cancer. Smoking aggravates the effects of exposure. Sodium Silicofluoride: Long-term exposure to concentrations above workplace standards for inorganic fluoride compounds by inhalation may cause fluorosis.
Carcinogenicity: Quartz is classified as an anticipated human carcinogen (NTP); and an IARC Group 2A carcinogen (human limited evidence, animal sufficient evidence).
