Acute Health Effects:
From MSDS:
Hazards Identification
Emergency Overview
Odorless or fresh scented pale gray to buff granules. Potential workplace nuisance dust. Potential respiratory hazard: Contains a small amount of crystalline silica, which may cause delayed respiratory disease if inhaled over a prolonged period of time.
Potential Health Effects
Eye Contact: Potential for irritation due to mechanical action of granules if left unwashed.
Skin Contact: Not a skin irritant.
Ingestion: Not considered toxic, however, ingestion may cause digestive tract discomfort, irritation, or injury due to its coarse nature and clumping characteristics when in contact with moisture.
Inhalation: Inhalation of dusts may cause shortness of breath and reduced pulmonary function. May aggravate existing respiratory conditions.

Chronic Health Effects:
From MSDS:
No information provided.

Carcinogenicity:
Not listed as a carcinogen or potential carcinogen by OSHA, NTP or ACGIH.
Sodium bentonite clay contains crystalline quartz. IARC in Monograph 68 has concluded that crystalline silica inhaled in the form of quartz from occupational sources is carcinogenic to humans (Group 1); however carcinogenicity was not detected in all industrial circumstances studied. Because applications and exposure data indicate that exposure to respirable quartz in this product with normal use is well below the OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL), and the ACGIH Threshold Limit Value (TLV); and because the company is not aware of any scientific and medical data available indicating that exposure to dust from this product under conditions of normal use will cause silicosis or cancer, adverse effects would not be expected from normal use of this product.

First Aid:
Eye Contact: Immediately flush eyes with a directed stream of water for at least 15 minutes, forcibly holding eyelids apart to insure complete irrigation of all eye and lid tissue. If irritation persists, get medical attention.
Skin Contact: Wash exposed areas with soap or mild detergent and water.
Inhalation: Remove from area of exposure. If breathing is difficult have a trained person administer oxygen. GET MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY.
Ingestion: NEVER GIVE ANYTHING BY MOUTH TO AN UNCONSCIOUS PERSON. If ingested, do not induce vomiting. If person is conscious, give two glasses of water to drink to prevent esophageal blockage. GET MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY.

Handling/Disposal
Handling:

This product will react with acids to yield carbon dioxide gas, which can accumulate in confined spaces. Do not enter confined spaces until they have been well ventilated and carbon dioxide levels have been determined to be safe.

Disposal:
Landfill in accordance with all local, state and federal environmental regulations. State and local regulations may differ from federal. Be sure to consult appropriate agencies for specific rules. Empty containers may be incinerated or discarded as general trash.
